National Cherry Blossom Festival 2027: dates, signature days and where to stay
Washington's cherry blossom weeks run from March 20 to April 11, 2027, with the kite festival, Petalpalooza and the parade on fixed Saturdays. Peak bloom is announced separately and shifts with the weather, so the hotel decision comes before the bloom decision.
- Dates: March 20 – April 11, 2027
- Venue: Tidal Basin and the National Mall, Washington
- Organised by: National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc.
- Admission: Free areas and ticketed areas
- Checked: September 11, 2026
Book a base for the middle of the festival window now and let the bloom fall where it falls: a hotel near the Mall or a Metro line to Smithsonian station makes an early-morning Tidal Basin walk possible on whatever day peak bloom lands. Save the signature Saturdays for the parade or the kites, not for the trees.

The event
The National Cherry Blossom Festival marks the 1912 gift of cherry trees from Tokyo with three weeks of programming across the city. The 2027 festival runs from Saturday, March 20 to Sunday, April 11, opened by a ceremony on March 20 and anchored by three Saturdays: the Blossom Kite Festival on March 27, Petalpalooza at Navy Yard on April 3, and the parade on April 10.
The organiser is the non-profit National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc.; peak bloom itself is forecast and announced separately, and the festival's own Bloom Watch page is the place to check it.
Bloom versus festival
The trees do not read the calendar. Peak bloom can land before the festival opens or after its first week, which is why a hotel booked for the exact parade weekend can miss the flowers. The safer plan is to book the middle of the window and keep the Tidal Basin walk for the earliest quiet morning of your stay.
The Tidal Basin path is a loop with no shortcuts; sunrise on a weekday is the least crowded hour, and the Metro to Smithsonian station is the way in, because parking near the Basin does not exist in bloom week.
The signature Saturdays
The Blossom Kite Festival on March 27 fills the Washington Monument grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Petalpalooza on April 3 runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Navy Yard on the Anacostia, a Green Line ride from the Mall. The parade on April 10 runs along Constitution Avenue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with grandstand seats sold by the organiser and free standing room along the route.
Each Saturday draws a different crowd to a different part of the city, which matters for the hotel return: Navy Yard evenings end on the Green Line, parade mornings on Constitution Avenue.
